Fostering Healthy Communities

Well it’s been a hot minute since our last Sustainable Table. We have been busy been creating some magic for our Permaculture Design Course starting tomorrow (eep, we can’t wait) and partly due to these pesky lockdowns slowing down plans for any kind of gatherings.

In lieu of having another wonderful day together, we have recorded the opening welcome by Nidala Barker, a sneak peak of a tour with Ella and the beautiful panel conversation we held on May 23rd. This time between tables has been a great reminder of the nourishment we all need to take as a part of our pursuit to live more regeneratively.

Sustainability is much more than a list of changed behaviours. A key to ongoing conscious living is in the name ‘sustain’ ‘ability’. Not only are we regenerating the environment, equality and resources for generations to come, but we need to sustain ourselves in this lifestyle. When tackling a profound change in our own behaviour, that goes against the customary behaviours in our culture, it is key that we also self nourish. By expecting that we individually require nourishment to sustain our ability to create a renewing systems (in place of the current degenerative model), we extend this nourishment to others.

The welcome by Nidala powerfully calls each of us to see our role as custodians and to invite nourish change into our communities. Sarah Schoeller and Marissa Bowden discussed their work to create systems that support our communities and educate them in new attitudes towards waste (aka The Village Markets waste free events efforts). The whole systems, whole communities approach discussed by Jake Mckeon of Coconut Bowls is an inspiring step into how we can create healthy communities through considered, nourishing business practices. Hearing their stories of being heart and passion led is an inspiring reminder that powerful business begins with connection to your own passion.
