Our Permaculture Design Course is a Certified Permaculture Design Course by the Permaculture Research Institute, Zaytuna.

Course Details

  • Week 1: Two Day intensive Saturday & Sunday - Permaculture: Ethics & Principles & Climate, Soils & Ecology

  • Week 2: Seed Saving, Propagation & Nursery Skills

  • Week 3: Earthworks, Structures & Disaster Management

  • Week 4: Animal Systems & Waste Management

  • Week 5: Sustainable Energy Sources & Earth building

  • Week 6: Alternative Economies & Community Living

  • Week 7: Design & Assessment

Course Structure

The course begins with a two day intensive on Saturday and Sunday 8.30-3.30pm. Theory classes are conducted online and a weekly practical session is held at Ella’s Farm.

From week two onwards, online lessons are in your own time with notes and worksheets. Practical sessions are Saturdays from 8:30am to 1:30pm. This is a total course commitment of 9 hours class time weekly.

Internship 2022: Permaculture Design Course and Regenerative Practices


The Internship includes a Permaculture Design Course completed alongside course students, plus an additional 8 hours of hands-on project work on each Friday 8am-4.30pm (total 8 hrs per week) for 8 weeks. The aim of the internship is to provide an affordable means for people to complete a the course and in turn give back to the projects on the farm. The internship begins 1 week prior to the course commencing 8am to 4.30pm each Friday until Week 7 of the course, allowing students time in the final week to complete all assessment..

Course Structure

Theory classes are conducted three times weekly: two online sessions and a weekly theory and practical session at Ella’s Farm on Saturdays. This is a total of 9 hours class time a week from Week Two to Seven and 8 hours interning each Week.

The course commences with a weekend intensive from 8.30am to 3.30pm both days. Weekly online classes in your own time with notes and worksheets begin from week two for the following 6 weeks. The final course assessment is on the final Saturday Week 7 of the Course.

Two-day Introduction to Permaculture and Regenerative Farming

This two day course integrates Permaculture principles and design as well as syntropic forestry knowledge. The course combines essential theory with practical sessions to get you ready to hit the soil running!

Topics include:

1. Permaculture: Ethics and Principles and holistic management goal setting

2. Introduction to Design - Plan your space and time for maximum benefit for minimum effort

3. Plant Needs: How to grow nutrient dense food within your time and financial budget

4. Maintenance and Pest Control

5. Seed Saving and Propagation

Includes workshop, light refreshments and 4 take home how to guides on topics covered.

Meet the teachers

Ella Forsyth

Course Facilitator: Bachelor Teaching, Bachelor Environmental Science, Bachelor Naturopathy. Ella grew up and worked in conventional agriculture throughout her childhood and corporate career in logistics. Ella concisely conveys her extensive environmental and basic sciences knowledge alongside her passion for sustainable and regenerative farming and waste management.

Kathryn Wood & Peter Wilkins

Peter and Katherine have extensive experience in native permaculture, landcare and Agroforestry. They will guide students in practical implementation and theoretical underpinnings of syntropic agroforestry and native permaculture. Learn how to implement practical landcare and re-wild bush land.

Dr Libby Forsyth

Dr Libby is a medical doctor with a passion for nutrition and the power of sustainable growing. She works as the Medical Students Education outreach coordinator at Doctors for Nutrition, and has postgraduate training in nutrition. Her passions are preventative health, evidence-based nutrition and planetary health. She will bring her passion and dedication to research to our human nutrition lectures.
